A delightful French food gift Hamper from the Provence region!

With this delectable gourmet hamper, La Gourmet Box invites you to discover a magnificent corner of France where the Alps meet the Mediterranean: the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, made famous by novelist Jean Giono. Its privileged location between the coast and the mountains creates a highly favourable climate for all sorts of plants—and, of course, incredibly rich and varied culinary traditions. We had a grand time exploring everything from classic Provençal recipes to alpine delights: fruit, vegetables and aromatic herbs like lavender and génépi, and succulent meats prepared by skilled artisans make this hamper a luxury you can't afford to miss.

OUR PROVENCE GOURMET GIFT HAMPER, A DELICIOUS FRENCH FOOD AND WINE BASKET FOR THE MOST DISCERNING FOODIES

Bau Fines Bulles de Muscat, the essential sparkling aperitif of Provence (75 cl. - 9%)

bau-provence-sparkling-wineArtisan: Distilleries et Domaines de Provence.

We could have chosen a classic rosé to wash down the contents of our Provençal hamper, but when we tasted this sparkling Muscat wine, we knew we’d found something even better to share with our gourmands. It is made from Muscat Petits Grains, a variety of white grape that grows in the mountains—hence the name “Bau”, which means “craggy rock” in Provençal.

With an expressive, fresh, floral bouquet (jasmine and rose) and a generous fruity taste (citrus and exotic fruit) with a long finish, enhanced by fine bubbles resulting from the natural fermentation process, this sparkling wine is a rare find!

In Provence, Bau is often paired with galette de Rois during the Christmas season, but it makes an ideal aperitif or dessert wine at any time of year. Chill and enjoy!

Organic Mediterranean Poichichade with AOC Haute-Provence extra virgin olive oil (100 g)

Houmous-bio-coffret-gourmand-provencceArtisan and farmer: Ferme familiale Vire Vent de Provence.

Raphaëlle grows organic chickpeas on her farm and prepares them in her own kitchen, following a traditional Provençal recipe. And she’s certainly got chickpeas down to art!

This poichichade, the Provençal version of Lebanese hummus, is a smoothly blended paste made from AOC Haute-Provence olive oil, crushed sesame seeds, lemon juice, garlic and spices ... and, of course, lovely tender chickpeas!

Enjoy Raphaëlle’s poichichade as a spread on toast or as a dip with veggie sticks. Savour the authentic taste of Provence!

Provençal pork terrine with a hint of Génépi liqueur (130 g)

provençal-pate-genepiArtisan: Artisan Conserveur Richaud & Fils.

This terrine is one of our artisan’s specialities. What makes it unique is the subtle flavour of Génépi liqueur, made from a flowering plant by the same name (also known as génépy or wormwood) that grows in the lower Alps.

Génepi is the local word for certain species of the Artemisia genus only found in the mountains.

Alouettes Sans Tête, a typical Provençal dish of beef, pork, herbs, wine and tomatoes (400 g)

alouettes-sans-tete-provenceArtisan: Maison Richaud & Badet.

Richaud & Badet, a genuine culinary gem of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence region, is a family business specialized in traditional tripe and pieds et paquets dishes “made in Sisteron”, including the famous Alouettes sans tête (literally “headless larks”).

Despite the rather macabre name, this is one of Provence’s tastiest specialities. The headless larks (paquetoun de biou in Provençal) are actually savoury beef fillet rolls stuffed with pork and wild herbs and stewed in wine and tomatoes. According to traditional lore, the name came from the fact that the stewed rolls end up looking like larks ... with no heads.

Served with polenta or fresh pasta, they’re a genuine delicacy.

Organic artisanal apple jam with Provençal lavender blossoms (235 g)

organic-provençal-jam-lavenderArtisan: Le Verger de Virginie.

The Alpes-de-Haute-Provence is a land of splendid orchards, and Virginie puts their exceptional fruit to good use in her delicious jams. For her apple jam, Virginie only uses fresh apples, sugar and organic lavender.

The apples are grown in the north of the département and purchased directly from the producer. After the apples are pressed and the juice has been extracted, the leftover pulp is used to make this sweet delicacy, just as French grandmothers have been doing for centuries.

The result is an impressively smooth jam in which the lavender enhances but doesn't overwhelm the apple flavour. Let us know what you think!

Assorted artisanal biscuits typical of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence: Valensole almond croquants and Cœurs de Lavande (150 g)

provençal-biscuitsArtisan: Marie-Ange Molinatti, Biscuiterie artisanale Les Biscuits de Moustiers.

Tucked away like a hidden treasure on a narrow street in the village of Moustiers, Marie-Ange Molinatti’s traditional biscuiterie smells of authenticity and lavender honey. We’ve chosen two of her most iconic creations for you to sample.

Crunchy and all-natural, we’re convinced you’ll love these sweet morsels.

Traditional Provençal sweets with almonds and honey: calissons and black and white nougat (loose in box)

calisson-nougat-blanc-noir-provenceArtisan: Confiserie Manon.

No tour of this magnificent region would be complete without a taste of some of Provence’s famous sweet confections. A beekeeper met a confectioner, and so Confiserie Manon was born, with truly delectable results. Premium ingredients, exceptional savoir-faire and absolutely no artificial preservatives, additives, colourings or aromas.

This hamper contains three of their finest Provençal specialities: calissons (wafer-like sweets made from finely ground almonds, Provençal cantaloupe, the “French melon”, and candied orange peel and topped with royal icing), black nougat and white nougat. These sweets are truly irresistible: once you start, you won’t be able to stop!
