OUR FRENCH GOURMET GIFT BASKET from PICARDY

Experience the succulent delights of France's Picardy gastronomy, as you eat your way through this fabulous Somme region gourmet box.

Fruity, sparkling farmhouse perry (75 cl)
Triple méchante blonde, a smooth craft beer with the elegant flavour of tropical and sweet citrus fruits (75 cl)

biere-artisanale-amiensCraft Beer artisan: Brasserie artisanale picarde Charles & Vianney, Etienne Devantoy, brasseur.

This is a heart-warming family story: in 2016, Etienne and his children, Charles & Vianney, decided to embark on a craft brewing adventure in Amiens with the goal of creating premium beers from the finest ingredients, prioritizing short supply chains and minimizing their environmental impact.

We chose to include a bottle of their méchante blonde or “naughty blonde”, but don’t be intimidated by the name: the delicate, slightly bitter beer with notes of citrus and exotic fruits will sweep you off your feet.

This blonde is only “naughty” because it’s a triple, meaning it has a bit more alcohol content. But oh, that flavour! Savour it chilled with the contents of your gourmet basket.

Organic syrup infused with aromatic rose hips (250 ml)

sirop-bio-cynorrhodonArtisan: Florixir Bio, Thomas et Kinley Lecureux, herboristes et distillateurs.

Thomas was working in southern France, cultivating and exploring the infinite virtues of his plants, when he suddenly asked himself, “Why not do the same, but organically and in northern France?” And so he founded a small family business that offers excellent plant-based products, including this organic rose hip syrup.

These particular hips are the fruit of the dog rose, commonly called gratte-cul or “bum-scratcher” because of their prickly, skin-inflaming hairs. But, once cleaned, those “itchy hips” can be eaten and used in decoctions. In fact, they’re chock full of vitamins and effective against common ailments. This is one “hip” trend you won’t want to ignore.

Pickled samphire, a hand-picked aromatic plant typical of the Bay of the Somme (80 g)

salicornesArtisan: La Conserverie familiale Saint Christophe, Éric Van Oost & Christine Apthorp.

Located in Argoules, 20 km east of the Bay of the Somme, the Saint Christopher family cannery creates delicious artisanal products. Marsh samphire, a halophytic or “salt-loving” plant , thrives in the saline waters of this famous bay. Its scientific name, Salicornia, comes from the Latin words sal (salt) and cornu (horn), after the shape of its stems. Harvested in May/ June, the first tender shoots can be eaten raw, plain or with a vinaigrette.

Freshly picked and canned by our artisan, this pickled samphire is ready to eat on salads, as a condiment (you’ll immediately understand why it’s often called sea pickle!) or with cold cuts, for example. A delicate, surprising vegetarian delight.

Typical potée Picarde with savoury pork and baby vegetables stewed in their own broth (380 g)

potée-picardeArtisan: Val de Luce - Vrai & Bon, Philippe Boucquez, Maître Artisan.

This popular Picardy dish, which dates back to the Middle Ages, is made by slowly stewing the meat and vegetables in their own juices.

And, of course, this genuine delicacy tastes even better washed down with a cold glass of beer.

Delicious almond and poppy macarons, crisp on the outside and soft on the inside (bag of 5 units)

macarons-coquelicotsArtisan: Biscuiterie artisanale du Pays du Coquelicot.

Everything at this bakery is done by hand, from kneading to packaging, with one star ingredient: the poppy, that delicate little flower that grows by the roadside or in fallow fields. Discover the delectable flavour of poppies in these scrumptious macarons!

Dans cette recette tenue secrète de macarons, on retrouve la finesse du coquelicot avec gourmandise !

A sweet version of the northern chicory, fine coffee praline coated in white chocolate (bag of 3 units)

endive-chocolatArtisan: Diot, Maître Chocolatier de France.

We couldn't exactly send you a fresh chicory, the signature vegetable of this part of northern France, but we found something just as good: the chicon du Nord reinterpreted by our chocolatier.

As you peel back the white chocolate leaves, you’ll discover a fine praline with the subtly bitter taste of coffee... even if you can't stand chicory, we bet you’ll love this version.

Traditional babas au rhum, soft little cakes soaked in fine rum syrup (120 g)

babas-au-rhum-artisanauxArtisan: Val de Luce - Vrai & Bon, Philippe Boucquez, Maître Artisan.

While they may not be THE classic Picardy dessert, our artisan’s babas are so delectable that we simply couldn't resist. Gourmands, grab your spoons!

Strawberry jam with pepper (125 g)

confiture-fraises-poivreArtisan: Le Temps du sucre - Les Jardins de Milady, Véronique Crépin, confiturière et chocolatière.

Véronique’s jams have won awards at several competitions, including the French Agricultural Show, and are a genuine treat.

This jam is particularly interesting, with a dash of pepper that actually intensifies the flavour of the strawberries.

We’re willing to bet you’ve never had strawberry jam like this before...

Bon Voyage to the Bay of Somme !
