Family-owned winery: Les frères Guignard.
In the valley of the River Ciron, near the Sauternes AOC region, lies Château Lamothe Guignard. Since 1981, Jacques and Philippe Guignard have been the lords and masters of the château. Their vineyards grow in a wide variety of soils, and the influence of the nearby River Ciron creates unique climate conditions that intensify the peculiar noble rot of Semillon (the dominant variety in Sauternes), Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle grapes.
Harvested in optimal conditions, the 2005 vintage of this sweet Sauternes white has a fairly intense, brilliant golden yellow colour. Subtle notes of citrus, smoke and minerals compete for second place in a bouquet dominated by fruit with hints of candied sweetness.
Flavourful in the mouth, with a perfect balance of sweetness and acidity, clean and crisp on the tongue and palette and richly aromatic. Though velvety, the feel is light rather than ponderous. Good structure and magnificently long finish. On the nose, wafts of candied lemon, jelly, smoke and wet stone.
A great wine to pair with classic foie-gras, desserts with yellow and/or exotic fruits, blue cheeses or Asian dishes (curries, Thai and Indian dishes, etc.).
This 2005 vintage from Château Lamothe Guignard is an unmitigated success. Uncork and savour it now... or let it age a few years more, if you can stand the suspense!
Artisan: Foie Gras Famille Regaud, artisanal cannery in the South-West.
Tasted recently while doing our Christmas shopping, this artisanal foie-gras immediately seduced us during a blind tasting. Respectful of tradition, our craftsman offers us an excellent foie-gras cooked to perfection if you please!
Fine and melting in the mouth, with just a hint of pepper, this is a delicious foie gras that highlights the raw material with a delicate know-how.
Just a premium Christmas artisanal foie gras perfectly made. A must-try for Foie-gras lovers! To fully appreciate the subtle aroma and flavour of this gourmet product, we recommend letting it sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before eating. Cut it into very thin slices, serve on a toasted piece of country bread and sprinkle salt on top for an unforgettably flavourful deluxe treat.
If you have a glass of Sauternes’ wine (included in your gourmet gift box) with it, you will just get closer to what a French gourmet could call paradise…
Artisan: Foie Gras Famille Regaud, artisanal cannery in the South-West.
"Lou Pastou" means the shepherd. Beneath this poetic patois term lies a delicious combination of a savory country pâté enveloping a melting heart of artisanal duck foie gras. The coarse chopping of the pâté perfectly enhances the texture and round taste of the foie gras. A little treat for a gourmet Christmas aperitif!
Artisan: Délices Décadol
Anchored in Champagne, our craftsman makes exceptional products with champagne as the main ingredients of course...
Without colouring, flavouring or preservatives, this Champagne “confit” (close to an elegant mermelade) is a real delight and will accompany your home-made foie gras and other delicacies you will find in your Christmas hamper in a very refined way.
A "Coup de coeur" of La Gourmet Box!
Artisan: le comptoir du Fougeray.
For us, Le comptoir de Fougeray is one of the great specialists in rillettes: thanks to slow cooking in a cauldron, manual shredding and a rigorous selection of meat, their rillettes, which contain no additives or preservatives, have an incredibly tender texture and a consistently good taste.
So when it came to showcasing Muscovy duck, we put our trust in them, and we really weren't disappointed. The fruity, peppery touch doesn't go unappreciated either: a delight on a piece of fresh bread or toasted toast.
Artisan: Le Temps des Mets.
Here is a gastronomic spread that will quickly become a must for your aperitifs!
The chestnut, foie gras and cep cream is delicious spread on toast or on a lightly toasted brioche. It will melt into the brioche before delighting your palate.
You will find the elegant taste of the chestnut, then the sweetness of the foie gras and finally the long finish of the cep.
A real festive treat!
Artisan: Biscuiterie Apiflor.
We made our way to a village called Madic, on the border between the départements of Cantal and Corrèze, where we met an artisan who makes delicious organic traditional biscuits in bronze moulds.
Genuine Cantal AOC cheese is added to the biscuit dough for a truly unique flavour. Ideal for nibbling with a glass of wine from your gourmet box—a crisp gourmet treat! Serving suggestion: to bring out the full flavour of these biscuits, bake them in the oven 2-3 minutes before serving.
Artisan: Maison Patignac.
Rillettes, a 100% French delicacy, is a savoury spread similar to pâté but with a coarser, meatier texture topped by a protective film of lard. The all-natural product we chose was made the old-fashioned way: shredded duck (raised by the artisans) is emulsified in its own juices for hours and seasoned with salt and pepper. When it get colder, our artisan just add some piece of foie-gras.
Just a must-try ! Serve it spread on toast to experience all the rich nuances of its delectable flavour.
Artisan: L'Attelier de Clisson.
At this small shop in Guérande, a town in southwest France famed for its butter and salt, every product is made using traditional methods and all-natural local ingredients. Nuts are the common denominator in every recipe, but they add sugar, caramel, spices or condiments to create a wide range of flavours and textures.
For our Christmas gift box we chose organic caramelized cashew nuts seasoned with Kâmpôt pepper for their originality (a change from the more conventional cashews), surprising taste (the pepper-sweet contrast is outstanding) and super-extra-crunchy texture. These sinfully delicious morsels are too tempting to resist.
Artisan-chocolate maker: Maison Guinguet
Although a cabécou is a goat's milk cheese from the Massif Central, these little delicacies only look like it!
Maison Guinguet plays on this discrepancy by offering us these cabécous which are in fact delicious crispy and melting chocolate morsels with hazelnut praline and crêpe dentelle under a white chocolate coating... With a glass of Sauternes' wine you will have a great moment for sure.
Enjoying yourself while having fun, that's the magic of Christmas! Be careful, there won't be enough for everyone!
Artisan Chocolatier: Maison Guinguet.
Our sweet box is full of surprises! Beneath this sausage-like appearance lies a delicious almond and hazelnut praline, with nougat, pistachio and almond chips, coated in milk chocolate.
To be sliced into thin strips that young and old alike can let melt under the tongue ... or bite into!
At La Gourmet Box, we're all about thoughtful details, which is why we've tucked some surprises among these delicious products to make your feast of French premium foie-gras truly memorable! Starting with the corkscrew, maybe the most essential element of this box.
